Admission Requirements

OLCC strives to admit every person that truly desires a Catholic Higher Education. In our efforts to bring all students from different backgrounds together, OLCC has established a minimum guideline for accepting prospective students.

In its admissions process, OLCC reviews each applicant’s background, College Board scores, and academic potential. This process is personal. The school makes every effort to discuss the admissions process requirements with every prospective student. Accordingly, students who will benefit from OLCC’s opportunities for intellectual, moral, social, and professional growth are encouraged to apply. Applicants will be accepted throughout the year. Prospective students seeking full- or part-time admission are also urged to contact the Admissions Office, directly at the address below, or by phone at 361-298-9095, ext. 12. Alternatively, you can come in person to benefit from the school’s personal admission approach.

The minimum criteria for consideration by the committee are as follows:

  • The minimum high school grade point average is 2.00. Students should successfully complete the following courses in high school:
    English 4 units
    Mathematics 3 units
    Foreign Language 2 units
    Science 2 units
    Social Science 3 units
  • SAT score of at least 880 (465 Verbal-Reasoning + 415 Mathematics scores) or composite score of 21 on the ACT exam.
  • Applicants with lower credentials are considered on a case-by-case basis by the Admission Review Committee. In the absence of SAT or ACT scores, students must take the THEA Test before registering for classes. College Transfer students who have completed 30 or more semester hours are not required to submit high school transcripts or SAT/ACT scores

Copy of most current taxes filed by the student’s parent or guardian unless the student is:

  • A Veteran
  • 23 years of age or older
  • Married
  • Orphan/Ward of the State
  • Independent for two years (time living in a college dorm does not count as independent) Independent defined as: not been filed on another persons’ taxes and paying their own rent/mortgage
  • Has son/daughter or dependents of their own
If the student falls under one of these criteria, then a copy of their most recent taxes must be submitted.

OLCC follows the guidelines that THEA recommends which will exempt you from taking the test:

SAT, if taken within the last five (5) years
Math: minimum 500
Verbal: minimum 500
With a total score of 1070 or greater

ACT, if taken within the last five (5) years
Math: minimum 19
Verbal: minimum 19
With a composite score of 23 or greater

Tests are used for most incoming freshman, and since OLCC does not administer the test, OLCC sends students to Del Mar or TAMUCC to take the tests, and they report the scores to the Director of Counseling and Career Services and the Director of Admissions.

Students can find out test dates for the THEA testing from the Director of Counseling and Career Services, the Director of Admissions or the THEA website at: http://www.thea.nesinc.com/index.asp.

Admission Procedures

Prospective students must submit the following materials to the Office of Admissions, Our Lady of Corpus Christi,1200 Lantana Street, Corpus Christi, TX 78469.

Before the Admission Committee can consider an application for an entering student, the applicant must present the following:

  • An application filled out by the applicant and signed by a parent or guardian (if the applicant is under18 years of age) along with a $30 non-refundable application fee.
  • Evidence of completion (or anticipated completion) of study at an approved secondary school or a GED diploma. High school and/or college transcripts if transferring from another college. Since most applications are filed during the senior year, the applicant must request that a final transcript also be sent after graduation.
  • SAT or ACT College Board scores. Taking a college placement test does not exempt students from submitting their SAT or ACT scores. College Board scores must be received before matriculation. Note: College Board scores are not required of an applicant who has graduated 5 years before the date of application or has an honorable United States service discharge.
The Texas Success Initiative (TSI) requires students to be assessed in reading, writing, and mathematical skills before enrolling in a Texas public college or university, and to be advised based on the results of that assessment. Our Lady of Corpus Christi will also require such assessment before enrolling an applicant unless he/she meets the above stated standards.

Other exemptions are offered for students who:

    • Active military duty
    • Have been discharged from the military on or after August 1, 1990
    • Has completed a Diploma at an accredited college or university
    • Has completed college-level coursework at a private or out-of-state college/university
    • A student who is exempt or waived from THEA may still be required to take an assessment exam in a particular area prior to enrolling in certain courses
    • OLCC will allow exemption if the student has an exit-level TAKS score of 2200 on the Math and a 2200 on the English Language Arts section with a 3 on the Writing sub-score
