Mission Statement
Our Lady of Corpus Christi is an apostolate of the Society of Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity. It is inspired to provide a higher Catholic education in liberal arts and humanities that contribute to and promotes the transcendent dignity of the human person in the image and likeness of God and serves in the mission of New Evangelization.
Commentary:
Jesus Himself is the Good news of God and was the very first and greatest evangelizer. Even to the sacrifice of His own earthly life. As an evangelizer, Christ, first of all acclaimed a kingdom, the Kingdom of God and this is the vision of Our Lady of Corpus Christi. The Lord delights in the happiness of belonging to this kingdom, which is made up of things that the world rejects. The kernel and center of His good news, Christ proclaims salvation, This great gift of God which is liberation from everything that opposes man, but which is above all, liberation from sin, and the joy of knowing God and being known by Him and seeing Him and by being given over to Him. All of this begins during the life of Christ and definitely is accomplished by his deeds and resurrection, but it must be patiently carried on during the course of history in order to be fully realized on the day of His final coming unknown to everyone except the Father. This “kingdom” and the “salvation” are the key words of Jesus Christ’s evangelization and are available to every human being as grace and mercy, and yet at the same time, each person must gain them through toil and suffering, from a life lived according to the gospel, through the demands of a total interior renewal which is called “metanoia.” The word, “new,” in front of evangelization has the meaning of Jesus who came to make all things new. In this particular context of “New Evangelization,” the pattern and plan is to bring about living encounters with Jesus Christ, which move in the paths of conversion, communion and solidarity. This program has to be initiated after the original meaning of evangelization is learned. It is proclaimed in the freedom of salvation, in tireless preaching, and in all the signs of evangelization. |
A. The education to the integrity of the whole student to be formed humanly, intellectually, morally, physically and also in a Trinitarian-Marian Spirituality developing the fullness of their gifts in the service to others in their needs as a human family as Jesus in giving the gift of Himself in the Eucharist. These qualities that are mentioned in this Mission Statement are for the human balance of persons. Cultivating a love of learning for its own sake and a life-long pursuit of ever deepening knowledge and understanding of their work and the Catholic faith in life within a Trinitarian Marian Spirituality.
Commentary:
They are formed in the fullness of the whole person to be attentive, intelligent, reasonable, responsible, and to be in love. This leads them to express the image and likeness of God in which they are created. in the Trinitarian-Marian Spirituality that is communion with the Most Holy Trinity of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, just as Our Lady came to this communion as daughter of the Father, Mother of the Son, and Spouse of the Holy Spirit. We are to bring them to the order of gift so that they may find and bring forth the fruitfulness of their gifts for the service of others in the human family. |
B. Educating in intellectual skills and apostolic wisdom, truth, and activity.
Commentary:
Intellectual skills demand assiduous study to acquire a wisdom which opens them and directs them to knowing, comprehend-ing, and loving. They are to be prepared to account for the hope that is in them. They should seek an ever-deeper knowledge of divine mysteries. |
C. Cultivating the love of learning for its own sake and a life-long pursuit of ever-deepening knowledge and understanding of the truth of the Catholic faith and life within a Marian Trinitarian spirituality.
Commentary:
The study of theology proceeds from faith and leads to faith. It brings one to believe in Jesus Christ who is the full and definitive word of God to the world and they are to adhere to Him. They are to continue their studies even after graduating so that they may keep up with all the developments in their particular field and value them in a genuine way in coordination with their other studies. A wide-spread mistrust is marked by indifference and the real capacity to reason, to reach objective and universal truth relating to God so they can think through to see with their mind what they believe and to work greatly in this regard. To make this possible and credible, demands a relationship between human reason and faith. It demands special attention to critical discernment, and extremely vigorous intellectual study. They must be able to read the signs of the times, and to bring to action, their knowledge. Their intellectual formation should be integrated with their spirituality and in their personal experiences.
The abstract knowledge in studies is to follow through and bring students to favor of intelligence of the heart that knows how to look beyond and to communicate as a people to our Creator. A critical stage of their intellectual formation is in philosophy and theology for a deeper understanding and interpretation of the person, the person’s freedom and relationships with the world and with God. The studies in these subjects, brings them to a certainty in truth, which is the only firm basis for the total giving of oneself. They are to come to a deeper understanding of man in the phenomenon and lines of development in society. They are to have a synthesis in the human sciences, of sociology, psychology, education, economics, politics, and the science of social communication. |
D. Developing and serving in New Evangelization through the education and evangelization of the world’s young people and their nations through the Eucharist and graced friendships in apostolic wisdom, truth, and activity.
Commentary:
Educating students to the New Evangelization of encounters with the living Christ in which they can witness these encounters with Jesus Christ that move them to the path of conversion, communion, and solidarity which they are prepared to share by bringing all peoples to communion with the Most Holy Trinity of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit which was the original plan of Our Father in relationship to all mankind and mandated to the Roman Catholic Church in the scriptures. Providing training of students to serve in the missions to witness this new evangelization. |
E. Teaching students to contribute as generous citizens and servant leaders in the Church and in Society just as Jesus served to foster the life, unity and solidarity among the people of God.
Commentary:
To serve as Jesus serves the human family. They are to bring humanity to a more abundant life, to be one in unity with them as brothers and sisters, and to have friendship and brotherhood and oneness with all. They are to live with a spirit of joyful generosity and are prepared to evangelize the culture as well as the first Christians did in accord with God’s will and the workings of the Holy Spirit. |
Conclusion:
Scripture evangelizes us that it is not just what we do, but the spirit with which we do it that matters. The spirit with which we live the mission for Our Lady of Corpus Christi is a family spirit.
